The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
